As relações de amizade na infância proporcionam contextos ricos de aprendizagens e são ao mesmo tempo elementos facilitadores do desenvolvimento social e emocional da criança, contribuindo de forma valiosa para o ajustamento social e capacidade de adaptação da criança aos contextos, às mudanças e naturalmente às crises próprias de todas as etapas de desenvolvimento.

As relações de amizade na infância e indubitavelmente ao longo de todo o ciclo de vida preenchem um espaço ímpar na vida de crianças, jovens e adultos, assumindo um universo de funções, criam sentimentos de pertença, enriquecem a identidade, alimentam a auto estima, promovem o auto conceito e auto confiança e são fonte de segurança.

É no palco da amizade que as crianças experimentam emoções, treinam o pensamento, resolvem conflitos,lidam com a diferença e vão construído a sua personalidade e identidade pessoal e social.

Crianças capazes de criar, estabelecer e manter relações de amizade são naturalmente crianças mais felizes, mais ajustados do ponto de vista emocional e social, mais sociáveis e altruistas, na medida em que, ter amigos é efetivamente uma vacina eficaz contra a solidão, a ansiedade, a exclusão e um elemento fomentador de um sentimento de bem estar com a vida.

Resta agora mais uma questão, se é fundamental estabelecer laços de amizade é portanto obrigatório que as crianças tenham a oportunidade, o tempo e o espaço para poderem viver esta experiência.
